A Vision of the Guandu Plain

The Guandu Plain, my hometown, seen anew through light, water, pathways, and time. Created in 2014 during my university years, this series emerged from a photography project course led by Shen Chao-Liang.

Throughout the semester, hundreds of images were often dismissed with a simple, “It doesn't move me.” What Shen sought was an intuitive, almost poetic way of seeing.

The turning point came with an unintentional camera movement during a shutter release. I was initially unsure of the image, yet it became the first photograph he truly recognized—one that conveyed what I felt toward the scene in that moment. This realization gradually led me from technique toward intuition, allowing deeper emotions to guide my exploration of the Guandu Plain.

Of the twelve photographs ultimately selected, most were made during the final weeks of the course, when a more intuitive way of seeing had finally emerged.
