Yushan (Jade Mountain) Main Peak rises to 3,952 meters (12,966 ft), making it the highest peak in Taiwan and the highest mountain in Northeast Asia. Located within Yushan National Park, it stands at the junction of Nantou, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung. The mountain was formed through the ongoing collision of the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Plate, with metamorphic and sedimentary rocks preserving the geological history of Taiwan's young mountain belt. Its dramatic elevation gradient supports diverse alpine ecosystems, ranging from subalpine conifer forests to alpine shrublands and grasslands. From the summit, visitors can overlook the Yushan Range and the rugged ridges of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range, experiencing one of East Asia's most remarkable high-mountain landscapes and an exceptional record of active mountain-building processes.
