Mt. Qilai North Peak is located in the northern section of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range within Taroko National Park and is one of the most iconic summits of the Qilai Mountain Group. Composed mainly of metamorphic rocks, the mountain has been shaped by tectonic compression, uplift, and erosion, creating steep cliffs, deeply carved valleys, and rugged serrated ridgelines. The area is influenced by strong alpine winds, low temperatures, and intense weathering, forming a distinctive high-mountain environment that supports Taiwan fir forests, alpine shrubs, dwarf bamboo grasslands, and diverse alpine flora. As a prominent viewpoint within the Qilai Range, Mt. Qilai North Peak provides expansive views of the Qilai ridges, Mt. Nenggao, the Hehuanshan peaks, and the dramatic landscapes of the Central Mountain Range. Its striking silhouette, dramatic cloud formations, and ever-changing alpine light make Mt. Qilai North Peak one of Taiwan’s most recognizable and photogenic mountain landscapes.
