Xueshan (Syue Mountain) Main Peak is the second-highest peak in Taiwan and the highest summit of the Xueshan Range. Located within Shei-Pa National Park, it straddles the boundary between Taichung and Miaoli. The mountain is composed primarily of sandstone, slate, and quartzite, and preserves Taiwan's most significant glacial landforms, including cirques, glacial valleys, and other erosional features formed during the Quaternary Ice Age. These landscapes provide valuable evidence for understanding past climatic changes in East Asia. As elevation increases, forests give way to fir woodlands, alpine bamboo grasslands, and rocky alpine terrain, supporting a diverse mountain ecosystem. From the summit, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the Sacred Ridge, the Central Mountain Range, and surrounding peaks, making Xueshan Main Peak one of Taiwan's most iconic alpine landscapes.
